A Homewood woman told police that a man with a knife walked into her home this morning and demanded money.
Officers from the city's Zone 5 station in Highland Park were called to the 6900 block of Bennett Street about 8 a.m.
The woman told police she brought her trash can inside and let her cat out this morning. Shortly after she sat down on her couch, a man walked through her unlocked front door and said, "I don't want to hurt you, I just want some money," according to a news release.
The woman said the man dumped the contents of her purse onto the floor, grabbed her wallet and ran out the front door.
She described the robber as a dark-skinned black man with a "medium" build who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall. He appeared to be between 40 and 50 years old, was clean-shaven and had short hair. He was wearing a green short-sleeve army fatigue shirt and dark khaki cargo pants with four pockets, police said.
Robbery detectives are asking anyone with information to call them at 412-323-7151.
