An Allentown man who was about to be taken for mental health treatment barricaded himself inside a home Monday night, telling officers he had booby-trapped the place, police said.
Employees from the Re:solve Crisis Network went to the man's home on Arlington Avenue Monday night with a warrant to involuntarily commit him to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Police are familiar with the 51-year-old man, whose name has not been released, and joined the mental health workers, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said in an email.
When officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside the home and told police he had bobby-trapped the entrances. The city bomb squad checked the house and did not find any traps.
Negotiators spoke with the man for more than two hours before they convinced him to come outside and took him to the psychiatric institute for treatment, Ms. Richard said.mobilehome - neigh_city - breaking
