Traffic coming into Pittsburgh is slow as Kenny Chesney fans making their way to Heinz Field for his 5 p.m. concert.

The Parkway East was backed up almost to Oakland for much of the morning, and traffic was slow on Route 65, Route 28 and Route 279. Traffic wass at a standstill on the Fort Pitt Bridge and the Fort Duquesne Bridge earlier today.

The North Shore is clogged as well as drivers sought parking spaces.

For Johanne Hoyt of Beaver County, it's been the same every year since Chesney started to visit Pittsburgh. The traffic is horrible.

Ms. Hoyt sat in the front seat of the car with her daughter driving near the ramp of a parking lot near the stadium with a few cars ahead of her around 11 a.m. She said she had been stopped on the North Shore ramp for almost an hour and passed one officer directing cars at the entrance of the park.

"I know they work hard and it's hot and everybody gets cranky and the drinkin', but there's really got to be a better way to funnel people into this park," she said.

Other drivers said they had been waiting two hours on bridges or North Shore streets to get into lots.

Some people decided to skip the traffic entirely and walk.

Dan Campbell and his friends from Mount Washington hauled a cooler along the pedestrian bridge from Point State Park toward Heinz Field. They had parked on the Boulevard of the Allies. Above them a line of vehicles inched along the Fort Duquesne Bridge.

Heinz Field management has advised that parking is available Downtown, Station Square, Allegheny Center, Blue Lot 10, Red Lot 5 garage and in private lots north of the West End Bridge. Fans who park Downtown can take the North Shore Connector to get them to Heinz Field faster. Fans can use either the Gateway or Wood Street station and the connector will transport them to the North Shore.

All gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 5 p.m.
