An inspector on a cherry picker was crushed against an I-beam on Interstate 279 under the East Ohio Street overpass, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Tripat Mann, 58, of Scott, died at 4:40 p.m. at Allegheny General Hospital, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said.

Mr. Mann was conducting an inspection for a company called the Beech Group, state police spokeswoman Trooper Robin Mungo said.

Allegheny County emergency dispatch got a call at 11:57 a.m. One of the officers on the scene performed CPR on Mr. Mann.

It is unknown if his injuries resulted from equipment malfunction or operational error, Trooper Mungo said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is on the scene, although Trooper Mungo is unsure how long the scene will remain active.

The Parkway North is restricted to a single lane at the East Ohio Street overpass and will be likely into rush hour, according to PennDOT.
