Pittsburgh police arrested a man Wednesday after he attempted to set fire to the house of his estranged wife while she and her four children were inside, according to a criminal complaint.
Dennis King, 34, is being held on numerous charges, including 10 counts of arson, after he doused the inside of his wife's Brookline home, including the beds of her children, with gasoline and then attempted to light it on fire around 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Heather O'Rourke has a protection-from-abuse order against Mr. King, who police said burned newspaper and lit the stove in efforts to ignite the house. Mr. King then ran into nearby woods, where he was arrested by police, according to the complaint.
In an interview with police, Mr. King claimed that he had been at the house to mow the lawn and that, when Ms. O'Rourke returned home, she had hit and pushed him, causing the gasoline to spill over the interior of the house, according to the complaint.
Mr. King awaits a June 21 preliminary hearing.
