A man shot in the head Thursday night in the city's Greenfield neighborhood remains in critical condition this morning, Pittsburgh police said.
Police and EMS responded to the 4200 block of Gladstone Street about 10:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Officers found a 33-year-old man on the porch of a home with a gunshot wound to the head, police bureau spokeswoman Diane Richard said.
The man's girlfriend told police their children were upstairs in bed when, downstairs, she and her boyfriend heard a knock at the back door.
Police said the woman told them her boyfriend got up to look out the window and she heard shots.
She said she ran to get a gun from an upstairs safe when she saw the man had been shot, police said.
Ms. Richard said the police report does not indicate that gun was fired, and officers took it for ballistic testing.
The children were safe upstairs with a neighbor when police arrived.
The man was taken to UPMC Presbyterian. Police, who are not releasing his name, also described his condition today as stable.
The shooting remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.
