An Overbrook man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on charges that he raped and bound a woman and threatened to kill her.
Alex McGowan, 25, faces numerous charges in connection with the events that police said unfolded inside his apartment over three days last month.
A woman told police that she'd had a prior relationship with Mr. McGowan and intended to remove some belongings from the apartment April 21. She said she spent the night and the two had consensual sex the next afternoon, according to a criminal complaint.
She told detectives Mr. McGowan began acting erratically and punched her in the eye before telling her that he would torture her and, when the police arrived, slit her throat so the officers would kill him, according to the complaint.
The woman described for police a scenario in which, over the next two days, Mr. McGowan bound her with duct tape, raped her, tried to burn her with a cigarette and forced her to take sleeping pills.
She said she escaped through a window April 24 while Mr. McGowan was sleeping and met her mother and a family friend before going to UPMC Passavant-Cranberry that night.
