A Coraopolis woman who was on her way to a court-ordered drug screening Thursday tried to smuggle drugs into the Allegheny County family court complex, police said.
When Ashley N. Harper, 24, passed through a metal detector, it was activated by a pack of cigarettes concealed in her bra, the county sheriff's office said today.
When she turned over the cigarettes, guards noticed a small bundle of suspected heroin in the pack, and she ran from the building's Ross Street entrance toward Fifth Avenue.
Deputy sheriffs searched her abandoned belongings and found three bundles containing 30 bags of suspected heroin.
Sheriff's deputies and Coraopolis police found Ms. Harper Friday afternoon on a second-floor roof of a home on the 1300 block of Vance Avenue.
Ms. Harper faces drug charges and is being held at the Allegheny County Jail tonight.
