School police arrested a 10th-grade boy who the district said left Pittsburgh Obama 6-12 in East Liberty this morning and returned with a gun.

A school security officer monitoring a surveillance camera saw the student leave the building and immediately went looking for him, school spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said.

They found him a short time later back inside the building with a gun and apprehended him without incident at about 10 a.m., she said.

Officers don't know exactly where the student went for the gun, but it must have been close to school grounds because he was outside only a few minutes, Ms. Pugh said.

"At this point, there's no confirmation he was going to use the gun inside the building," she said.

The student will face school discipline and was turned over to Pittsburgh police for possible criminal charges.
