Another allegation of sexual assault at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic has emerged this week, prompting an investigation by Pittsburgh police.

Acting Major Crimes Commander Kevin Kraus said he spoke with a woman Tuesday who called to say her 7-year-old son was inappropriately touched twice by an older patient on Friday.

She told police she had admitted her son to the clinic earlier that morning.

"The mother of the boy was informed within 2 1/2 hours of us learning of the alleged incident," said Gloria Kreps, director of UPMC media relations.

She added that UPMC will conduct an internal investigation.

Earlier this month, a 14-year-old male patient at Western Psych was charged in juvenile court after he was accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl at the same facility.

An aide discovered the two, who did not know each other. When the aide walked into the sixth-floor playroom and saw the girl had her pants down, the boy told the aide he didn't do anything, police said.

Both incidents happened on the sixth floor, Cmdr. Kraus noted, though he would not say specifically where the latest alleged assault took place.

The 14-year-old in the earlier assault was charged with a count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of indecent assault. He remains at Western Psych undergoing treatment. Upon his release, authorities will determine whether he will be incarcerated at a juvenile detention center.
