To try to maintain safety and reduce congestion during Saturday's St. Patrick's Day festivities, the city of Pittsburgh will operate a free shuttle service between the Second Avenue parking lot and the South Side.
According to the city, the free service will operate from noon Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday between the parking lot and through the Carson Street corridor to SouthSide Works. There will be 10 shuttle stops.
The city is encouraging employees and visitors to use the shuttle to ease congestion on the South Side.
There also will be five taxi stands set up through the Carson Street corridor.
The one-day pilot program is part of the plan by the Pittsburgh Sociable City Plan and the Responsible Hospitality Institute to address parking and transportation concerns in the restaurant and bar district.
If it is successful, it may be expanded in the future.
