A man was arrested after a SWAT team was called to a home in Crafton Heights on Friday morning.
Garrick E. Wright, 25, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful restraint following a standoff. He was also served a warrant charging him with simple assault stemming from a Jan. 25 incident, according to court documents.
Early Friday morning, Pittsburgh police said, Mr. Wright punched his girlfriend in the face and prevented her from leaving their residence on the 700 block of Woodlow Street and threatened her with a pistol. Around 11 a.m., she told Mr. Wright she needed to go to the hospital for her injuries, police said, but instead went with her 4-year-old son to a nearby residence to call 911.
Police responded to the call around 11:30 a.m. As police approached the couple's home, they felt it was an "officer safety issue" due to the possibility of weapons in the house, police said. The SWAT team arrived and after a standoff, Mr. Wright was found hiding inside of the refrigerator around 3:30 p.m., authorities said.
Mr. Wright was being held at the Allegheny County Jail on Friday night, police said.
