A block of Butler Street in Lawrenceville was closed this morning while police negotiated with a man who refused to come down from his neighbor's roof.
Pittsburgh public safety officials helped the man to safety about 8:45 a.m. Crews extended a fire ladder and the man scooted down, pausing at times, with two officials close behind him.
He left inside a police car.
John Venezia said he awoke between 3 and 3:30 a.m. to police banging on the door and bright lights
Mr. Venezia said his neighbor likely climbed onto his roof via the man's the attic window. Homes in that section share a roof.
After standing atop the roof for several hours and speaking with negotiators, the man "eventually just got tired," Mr. Venezia said.
On the roof, the man appeared to be distressed while talking on the phone.
Butler Street was shut down between 54th and 55th streets until about 9:05 a.m.
