The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying a man who lied to County Courthouse guard and claimed an envelope full of money that wasn't actually his.
An envelope with $600 was accidentally left at a metal detector inside the courthouse Friday, according to a press release issued today.
About an hour and a half later a man, who authorities now believe had appeared in court that day, came up to the guard and said the envelope belonged to him. The guard gave him the money.
A few hours later another person, who police said is the true owner of the funds, came forward and said they had accidentally left child support money at the metal detector.
The suspect is described as a 5'9" and 180 pound white male around 35 years old.
Police are cross referencing images of defendants that appeared in court Friday with a surveillance image in hopes of identifying the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 412-350-4714.
