Pittsburgh City Council gave preliminary approval last week to a bill that would allow advertising and sponsorship on a range of city assets, including Department of Public Works uniforms, park benches and some city vehicles.
The city believes the program could bring in a half-million dollars in revenue.
Public safety vehicles -- firetrucks, ambulances and police cars -- could not become canvases for advertisements, but other city vehicles could. The sides of city buildings, council chambers and the mayor's office also would be off-limits.
The bill is up for a final vote on Tuesday.
