Pennsylvania State Police have obtained warrants for two halfway house escapees who may be on the lam together.
Heather R. Thunberg, 29, did not return to the Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center in Shadyside on Thursday from her authorized personal release pass, according to a state police news release. Michael R. Smith, 30, left on an authorized pass to the VA Medical Center the same day and did not return to Riverside Community Corrections Center in Marshall-Shadeland.
Both escapees have an extensive criminal history, police said. Ms. Thunberg is serving time for drug possession and Mr. Smith for burglary.
Trooper Robin Mungo said police believe the pair may be together because they know each other. Ms. Thunberg's last known addresses are in Monaca and Rochester and Mr. Smith's address is listed as Franklin Park.
Ms. Thunberg is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She has a tattoo on her back.
Mr. Smith stands 5 feet, 9 inches, 178 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos, including tribal tattoos on his leg and arms; the word "Jaxon" in his right arm; "2-10-09" on his neck and piercings in each ear.
