Members of the city SWAT team surrounded a West Oakland home tonight while searching for a man involved in a Hill District shooting.
A detective from the city's Zone 2 station in the Hill District was patrolling about 6:30 p.m. today when he heard shots and came upon a car that had gone part-way down a hillside on Kirkpatrick Street, Lt. Jason Lando said.
Inside the car was a 56-year-old jitney driver with a gunshot wound to the leg. Lt. Lando said medics took the man to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition tonight.
He said officers later learned that the jitney driver had picked up someone from a home on Oak Hill Drive in West Oakland, where members of the SWAT team assembled tonight before they realized that the house was empty.
Lt. Lando said police do not yet know how many people might have witnessed the shooting or what the motive was.
He said the suspect is a black man, about 5 feet 11 or 6 feet tall, who had twisties in his hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Zone 2 plainclothes detectives.neigh_city - breaking
