Pittsburgh police are investigating after two people were shot in Knoxville this afternoon.

Dispatchers received a call shortly before 3 p.m. for a report that shots were being fired near Rochelle Street and Ibis Way.

When officers from the city's Zone 3 station in Allentown responded, they found two teenagers with gunshot wounds lying near the intersection of Bausman and Amanda streets, Major Crimes Lt. Kevin Kraus said.

A 17-year-old boy had a gunshot wound to the left side of his hip, and an 18-year-old man had gunshot wounds to his chest and back.

Medics took both teens to UPMC Mercy, where the 17-year-old was in fair condition and the 18-year-old was in critical condition while he underwent surgery.

Lt. Kraus said police do not have information about a suspect or suspects or about a motive.

Neighbors said they heard between 10 and 12 shots but did not see any of the action.

Ed Jackowski, 69, said he was in his girlfriend's house on nearby Zara Street when he heard gunfire, a sound he said he hears too often in the neighborhood.

Anyone with information is asked to call city homicide detectives at 412-323-7161.
