Route 65 will reopen at the Marshall Avenue interchange on Aug. 31, weather permitting, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.
The road has been closed in both directions for bridge and ramp work since July 2011, creating a nuisance for about 26,000 daily users. The reopening is two months ahead of schedule, made possible by keeping the road closed over last winter and continuing work.
Traffic has been forced to detour using off- and on-ramps.
The ramp from Chateau Street to northbound Route 65 also will reopen Aug. 31, but construction in the area is far from complete. A third phase involving ramps is scheduled for next season.
Also, through late October, the ramp from California and Marshall avenues to Beaver Avenue/southbound Route 65 will remain closed and a lane will stay closed on Chateau Street between Adams Street and Beaver Avenue U-turn intersection.
