A Homewood man accused of crashing into a police car and leading police on a chase through the neighborhood was arrested early Friday morning.
Charges against Kevin Coles, 42, include aggravated assault against the police in pursuit, fleeing police and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers observed the car Mr. Coles was driving fail to stop at several stop signs near the corner of Collier Street and Hamilton Avenue around 3:30 a.m., according to a criminal complaint. When they turned on their lights and siren, they said the driver did not stop and led them on a chase.
In the 7200 block of Fletcher Way, police said Mr. Coles stopped, then reversed into the police car before getting out and running. He led officers through several backyards.
When officers reached him, they said he lowered his shoulder into an officer then tried to grab another's taser during the struggle. Officers then kicked him several times to free his arms, which he pinned under his body to avoid being handcuffed.
A woman, identified as Kayla Williams, was in the passenger seat of the car and was released.
Police said after being handcuffed Mr. Coles apologized and said "he didn't want his girl to find out he was with another girl."
Police said he blew a 0.102 on a Breathalyzer, was cleared at Mercy Hospital and was taken to Allegheny County Jail.
