Ten Pittsburgh community groups were awarded $500 grants Monday to clean up vacant lots through the city's "Love Your Block" program.
City officials selected the winners, which will receive Home Depot Foundation grants.
Awarded grants were Deutschtown Business Association, for beautification of the East Ohio Street business district; Elliott Community Group, for installation of a welcome sign and cleanup projects; Habitat for Humanity, for "front yard facelifts" in the Hill District; Lighthouse Memorial Christian Center, for greening projects in St. Clair; and Oakland Planning and Development Corp., for community building improvements.
Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, Downtown; Polish Hill Civic Association; Uptown Partners; YWCA of Homewood; and the 400 Block of Jucunda Street Clean-Up Committee in Knoxville received grants for gardening projects.
Love Your Block is part of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's ServePGH program. This is the second round of Love Your Block grants.
