WDUQ-FM (90.5) took in $208,000 during its winter pledge drive, which ended today at noon.

"It was definitely a record high for a drive this short," said Mark Bertolet, the station's director of communications and marketing. "We were definitely pleased with it."

It is the first pledge drive since the January announcement that Duquesne University was selling the station to Essential Public Media, a partnership between WYEP-FM (91.3) and Public Media Co.

Depending on the speed of the sale, it may also be the last pledge drive for the station in its current incarnation.

The pledge drive spanned seven and a half days, which is about 4 days shorter than a typical pledge drive, said Mr. Bertolet. The station received more than 2,350 individual pledges.

Last year's winter pledge drive -- the first pledge drive since the station was put up for sale -- collected a record-breaking $525,000 from 5,196 listeners.

The two other pledge drives last year brought in $354,000 and $218,000.

Normally the station would have another pledge drive in late May, said Mr. Bertolet, but that might not happen depending on the timing of the sale.

"At this point, we're not really sure what will be happening," he said. "We need to evaluate financial situation and see where we are in May."
