Classic hits station WWSW-FM (94.5) has hired a new morning host. Jonny Hartwell will join the station Monday as host of the 5 to 9 a.m. shift.
Mr. Hartwell is a familiar voice to many Pittsburgh radio listeners. He was afternoon host on WZPT-FM for nine years and left that job in January. Before that, he worked at WLTJ-FM and the former WBZZ-FM. Before coming to the Pittsburgh market, he worked at stations in Youngstown, Myrtle Beach and other Pennsylvania towns.
"Jonny has been in the market for a long time. He's well liked," said David Edgar, operations manager for Clear Channel Pittsburgh. "This is the music that he loves. It's a perfect fit for him to come over here."
He replaces longtime 3WS morning host Jim Merkel, who was let go last week.
Mr. Hartwell will also serve as digital program coordinator. In that newly created role at the station, he'll come up with original content for the WWSW website -- photos, videos and other content tied to the morning show and to other programming on the station, giving listeners more ways to interact with the station.
