AIDS-Free World co-director to speak at AGH

Stephen Lewis, co-director of AIDS-Free World, will speak on efforts to eradicate the disease at 6 p.m. today in the Magovern Auditorium at Allegheny General Hospital, North Side. The group is a new international advocacy organization that works to promote urgent and effective global responses to HIV/AIDS.

The talk, open to the public, is sponsored by the Allegheny General Hospital Registered Nurse Chapter of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania.

Mr. Lewis was the United Nations secretary-general's special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa 2001-06. From 1995 to 1999, he was deputy executive director of UNICEF in New York. He is also a professor in global health at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He serves as a member of the board of directors of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and is the author of the book, "Race Against Time."
