Pittsburgh and the Israeli city of Karmiel and its neighboring region of Misgav will formally establish "sister city" status this morning.
Karmiel and Misgav jointly become the 15th international community to be named a sister city since the program began in the late 1950s. The program promotes Pittsburgh's international ties throughout the world.
The mayor of Karmiel, the largest city and commercial center in Galilee, and the deputy major of Misgav are part of a 23-member delegation in Pittsburgh for today's ceremony before City Council.
In 2000, Karmiel dedicated its city square as the Pittsburgh Promenade.
