KENNEDY: Trio faces drug charges
Police officers from Kennedy and Stowe seized $27,000 worth of narcotics and $5,000 cash yesterday from the vehicle of a drug suspect already in police custody.
Acting on a tip from an informant, police arrested Larry Taylor, 34, of the Hill District, his mother Sandra Taylor, 52, of Wilkinsburg, and Lloyd Manigault, 43, of East Liberty, in a Kennedy motel room Friday night.
Larry Taylor tried to swallow an ounce of cocaine and the suspects attempted to flush an undetermined amount of heroin down the toilet, said Stowe police superintendent A.J. Marx said.
The three suspects were charged with possession with intent to deliver narcotics, simple possession of narcotics, and tampering with evidence.
Yesterday, police executed a search warrant on a vehicle owned by Larry Taylor that was parked outside the motel. They found 5 ounces of crack cocaine, 4 ounces of powder cocaine and two bricks of heroin.
Marx said additional drug charges would be filed against Larry Taylor.
MOON: Police replacing vests
The Moon police department is replacing almost all of its bulletproof vests after the manufacturer said the vest may wear out faster than expected.
The company recently acknowledged that its lightweight Ultimax and Ultima protective vests may break down under heat and moisture and offered upgrades and replacement vests.
Moon police Capt. Leo McCarthy said the department ordered the 22 new vests on Friday. "We want to get these vests as fast as possible," he said.
Forest Hills police Officer Ed Limbacher was injured in the abdomen while wearing a Second Chance Ultima on June 23 when a bullet hit his vest during a drug arrest. The vest is being tested by the Allegheny County crime lab and the National Institute of Justice.
