Business group buys Christmas decorations for Brentwood

Wednesday, May 14, 2003

Brand new Christmas decorations will be displayed on nearby utility poles when Brentwood Towne Square opens in November.

The Brentwood Business Owners Association purchased 80 decorations, including wreaths with candles and angels with lights. Plans call for the borough's public works department to post the decorations along Route 51, Brownsville Road and DeWalt Avenue during the holiday season.

"We want to bring back the holiday spirit to Brentwood," said Alex Lese, an association member.

The decorations cost $21,500, which will be raised through such fund-raisers as Brentwood Business Owners Association Night at PNC Park on July 21 when the Pirates play the Astros.

The deadline for ordering tickets is June 20. For information, call 412-854-1449.

The lights were unveiled at a luncheon meeting of the association last week at the South Hills Country Club.

Lese, a retired dentist and owner of buildings in the business district, said he remembered decorations being hung some years ago but believed they were destroyed by water.
