The Boy George Tribute Day resolution

City Resolution No. 901, passed unanimously by Pittsburgh City Council.

WHEREAS, pop icon and music legend George O'Dowd, better known to fans worldwide as Boy George, for two decades has offered his talents, wisdom and tireless energy to the music industry as well as the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities via his international musical talents and voice of poetry and reason; and

WHEREAS, Boy George, a citizen of England, has not only impacted the music industry by selling over 33 million records, but has also contributed to the literary arts with his poetry, his column in England's "Daily Express" newspaper and by his own autobiography; and

WHEREAS, Boy George has contributed a great deal of his life to the advancement of the pop music culture and has overcome many hurdles and obstacles making him a positive, international role model for so many; and

WHEREAS, Boy George and Culture Club will be arriving in Pittsburgh for a Sunday performance at Metropol in the Strip District to what will surely be a standing-room-only performance;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, October 1st, 2000, as "Boy George Tribute Day" in the City of Pittsburgh and does hereby dub him an honorary Pittsburgher.
