![]() Nina Pineda: Reporter who covered WTC attack
Wednesday, September 11, 2002 By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor
Uniontown native Nina Pineda, who worked at WTAE-TV before joining WABC-TV in New York, said covering the terrorist attacks and their aftermath was a struggle.
"There have been times I thought I wasn't going to be able to continue to do this," Pineda said, recalling a Christmas day assignment when she had to knock on the door of a family who lost a son in the attacks. "What kept me going was I didn't want somebody less sensitive to be in charge of handling families.
"You just feel like you need to do the best you can by those people who suffered."
Pineda, who has asked to cover the first anniversary in Shanks-ville, was featured in 9/11 news footage taking cover behind a parked car during the World Trade Center collapse.
"I haven't worn that suit, I haven't worn those shoes" since then, she said of her wardrobe from that grim day. "I just put it in plastic and hung it up."
