The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:
Suitable for: Mature teens and older.
What you should know: Tom Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips, in charge of the Maersk Alabama container ship when it is taken over by armed Somali pirates. This is based on a true story.
Language: A couple of uses of profanity and maybe a half-dozen mild expletives.
Sexual situations and nudity: None.
Violence/scary situations: Pervasive throughout, especially once the pirates stalk and take over the Alabama. Several people are killed and their blood sprays onto a bystander who appears to go into shock. Others have their lives threatened and are hit with guns or have them discharged nearby or pressed to their heads. A man's feet are left bleeding and raw after he steps on glass. Punches are thrown, a wrench turned into a weapon and a deadly game of hide-and-seek launched. Gunshots fired at a helicopter.
Drug or alcohol use: Chewing of khat, a leafy plant used as a recreational drug.
