Carnegie Mellon University grad Patina Miller has been cast as Commander Paylor in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Parts 1 and 2." She tweeted the news and said she was "so incredibly grateful and so excited!"
Ms. Miller, who won the Tony as lead actress in a musical for "Pippin," will play the leader of the District 8 rebels who fight for their freedom against the Capitol. The Suzanne Collins novel describes her as in her early 30s but with an authoritative tone to her voice.
Movie 'Massacre' on tap
The world premiere of "Jagoff Massacre" will be part of the fifth Horror Realm convention this weekend.
It's described this way: On a cold winter's night in Greenfield, two drunks named Chosky and Stutch run afoul of inept Satanists. A chase, complete with bloodletting, ensues through Pittsburgh.
Filmmaker Tim Gross says it's "yinzers making fun of yinzers in a no-budget film" and he hopes Pittsburghers or people who have ever been anywhere near here will get the joke.
Due to a schedule change, it will be shown at 11:59 p.m. Friday, with an encore screening 7:20 p.m. Saturday as part of the lineup of movies, panels and author or filmmaker appearances at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South.
Weekend passes are $35. Friday or Saturday pass, $15; Saturday and Sunday, $20; and Sunday only, $10. For details, www.horrorrealmcon.com.
