The official Academy Awards Web site, Oscar.com, is the obvious site for news about tomorrow's awards show. But it is far from the only Web site with an interest in the Oscars.
In addition to coverage of the awards show and post-show activities, Oscar.com has the full picture on what it takes to stage the Oscar ceremony, video clips of the nominated films, a ballot you can print out, a fun and games section and a complete history of the Academy Awards. You can even send an electronic greeting card. Oscar.com is a coproduction of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (oscars.org) and ABC.com.
There are many other sites with Oscar features that are worth surfing past:
Eonline (www.eonline.com/Features/Awards/Oscars2000)-- Nobody knows gossip better than the folks at E! You could spend hours on the cable channel's Web site. It has some heavy-hitters: Queen of the Red Carpet Joan Rivers and daughter Melissa and at 8:30 on Oscar night there is Ted Casablanca's Oscar Party. Of course there are predictions and lists, but where else can you play the Best Actress Game?
Variety (www.variety.com/oscar2000/) -- If you're in the business, you have to read Variety. The Web site is comprehensive, stylish and informative -- once you get past the Variety-speak. The site also has film reviews and games.
ACNielsen EDI (www.entdata.com/guide/) -- This company, which collects and disseminates box-office data, has a Web site for the serious Oscar handicapper. You shouldn't enter an Oscar contest without stopping here first.
Mr. Showbiz (mrshowbiz.go.com/features/oscars_2000/) -- Of course this is the place to go for the latest news, but the site has some very nice features, too. Pity it's incredibly ugly.
TV Guide Online (www. tvguide.com/features/oscars2000/) -- Well, the show is on TV isn't it? The site has tons of video clips of nominated movies and links to the films as well. A good resource for people who haven't seen the films.
Bigstar (www.bigstar.com/award/oscars/) -- All the usual stuff is here, but because they sell videos, you can create your own video library of past winners.
Real.com (www.reel.com/reel.asp%253Fnode=oscars2000) -- They sell videos, too. But this site has some real gems: interviews with the nominees, movie clips, trivia, a printable ballot, polls and a hilarious guide to planning an Oscar party.
Razzies (http://hollywood.about.com/citiestowns/caus/hollywood/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.razzies.com/) -- Golden Raspberry Award Foundation is marking its 20th year of honoring the worst achievements in film. "Winners" are announced tonight.
