Some high school students excel in a sport, work with a favorite community service or focus on their academic studies.
This year's All-Star Achievers, however, do it all. They are skilled in the classroom, in music and other artistic endeavors, in sports, in helping to make the community a better place.
They are the 2003 class of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Star Achievers, as nominated by their teachers and selected by editors of the newspaper. They represent seven areas of the Post-Gazette's circulation, were chosen for their academic excellence, accomplishments in extracurricular activities and community service.
Each public and private high school in the region was invited to nominate up to three graduating seniors for the Post-Gazette's annual All-Star Achiever awards. Editors from each of the newspaper's suburban editions and the community affairs staff then selected 10 winners from each suburban area and the city.
The PG also honored teachers, chosen by the students, who have had the greatest impact on their lives. A brief biography of each student, and the students' essays honoring their teachers, are below.
