An East Huntingdon teenager did not survive a collision today with a dump truck on Route 31.
Brendan J. Walter, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy coroner in Westmoreland County. Mr. Walter was driving west near 1296 State Route 31 in East Huntingdon Township when his passenger vehicle crossed the centerline and veered into the opposite lane of traffic, hitting a dump truck traveling east. He was traveling alone.
Mr. Walter was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident, the coroner concluded, and speed is believed to have been a factor. An autopsy will not be performed. Kapr Funeral Home of Scottdale will be handling funeral arrangements.
A Westmoreland County dispatch supervisor said the crash occurred at 4:49 p.m. Emergency responders from several boroughs and state police from Greensburg were called to the scene.
