As of 5:30 p.m., services were restored for Windstream Communications land-line customers experiencing problems dialing 911 this afternoon.

Company spokesman Scott Morris confirmed the repair and had said the outage was caused by a hardware problem.

A Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said fire and EMS stations in affected areas were staffed with personnel to take emergency reports in person.

Affected areas included Penn Township, Murrysville, Salem, Delmont, Export, New Alexandria and the southern part of Washington Township.
