Latrobe man struck by train dies

A 21-year-old man died this morning after he was struck by a train shortly after midnight in Latrobe.

The Westmoreland County coroner's office identified him as Tyler L. Quakenbush, of Latrobe.

A Norfolk Southern train going westbound struck Mr. Quakenbush shortly after 12:15 a.m. at the mile post 312, the coroner's office said in a press release. Train personnel engaged the emergency brake upon seeing him on the tracks, the release says.

Mr. Quakenbush was taken to Excela Health in Latrobe, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m.

His death is being investigated by Latrobe and Norfolk Southern police.
