A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend at her Westmoreland County home in December is now facing a homicide charge.
Pennsylvania State Police said Arthur L. Whitfield III, 51, shot ex-girlfriend Holly S. George, 36, four times while she lay in bed at her home in Derry Township on Dec. 1. Critically injured, she was flown to UPMC Presbyterian, where she died Dec. 20. An autopsy revealed she died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said.
Before her death, Whitfield, of Josephine, Indiana County, was charged with attempted assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal trespass and various gun violations. His bail was revoked Dec. 11 for having contact with Ms. George's family, court records show.
State police filed the new charges Wednesday as the result of her death. In additional to criminal homicide, he is charged with burglary and firearms violations. He was arraigned on this set of charges on Thursday morning and faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
