Pittsburgh police arrested a Westmoreland County sheriff's deputy and another woman on charges that they had heroin in the East Liberty Target parking lot.

Erika Ditch, 24, of Greensburg, was first suspended without pay after her arrest on drug possession charges, Sheriff Jonathan Held said. She turned in a letter of resignation, effective immediately, at 2 p.m.

Ms. Ditch and Leann Wechtenhiser, 24, of Derry, were arrested last night after police said they watched as the two pulled into Target parking lot in a pick-up truck and sat there for several minutes without moving.

Police wrote in a complaint that they found the two with needles and heroin.
