A Vandergrift woman was arrested today on charges that she was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana this spring when she crashed the car, killing her sister.
State police in Kittanning charged Michelle Dibler, 23, with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses in the March 18 death of 26-year-old Nicole Dibler. KDKA-TV reported that the two were sisters and that they were driving home from Michelle's bachelorette party.
Police wrote in a report that Michelle was driving a Ford Five Hundred sedan east on River Road in Parks, Armstrong County, when she skidded along a guardrail before flipping the car, which then slid down an embankment into the Kiskiminetas River. Michelle escaped and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian with minor injuries.
Members of the Armstrong County Water Rescue Task Force found Nicole in the backseat of the car and the coroner's office pronounced her dead at the scene. State police said lab tests later showed that Michelle's blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of .08 and that her blood tested positive for signs of marijuana.
Michelle is being held in the Armstrong County Jail on $25,000 bail, according to online court records.
