A New Kensington man died in a fire yesterday morning at his residence, police said.

The body of Kenneth Adams, 46, was found by firefighters in his bedroom next to his bed, said Dennis Johns, a deputy coroner in Westmoreland County.

That location also appears to have been where the fire started, Mr. Johns said.

The fire was reported at 7:49 a.m. in an apartment in the rear of the house in the 300 block of Fifth Avenue, where the victim lived with his brother, Michael Adams.

Michael Adams, who works an overnight shift, was not at home at the time.

No other injuries were reported, Police Chief Charles Korman said.

A state police fire marshal is investigating. An autopsy was scheduled yesterday.
