A long-time West Allegheny School District administrator said farewell to school board members before beginning his retirement on Aug. 29.

Assistant Superintendent William Englert Jr. said tonight's school board meeting was the final of his career. He has been replaced by new assistant superintendent Sean Aiken, who began work in the district Aug. 18

Mr. Aiken will serve with Superintendent Jerri Lynn Lippert, who assumed her new role in July. He formerly served as principal of Quaker Valley Middle School in Sewickley.

Ms. Lippert said Mr. Englert delayed his retirement to assist with the administration’s transition.

The district announced the hire of Kimberly Basinger as new assistant to the superintendent. Ms. Basinger’s start date has not yet been determined. She previously worked as director of professional development for Pittsburgh Public Schools.

Board members also approved schematic designs for alterations to McKee Elementary and authorized the Bridgeville-based Hayes Design Group to move forward with development of the project. The district is renovating the Oakdale elementary school to remove open classrooms.
