Route 50 in Heidelberg will close for 10 minutes next Wednesday, August 27 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a $2.4 million streetscape project that has rebuilt Route 50 through Heidelberg, Carothers Avenue in Scott, and Third Street in Carnegie.

Largely funded through a federal Department of Transportation grant, the $2.4 million project included new lighting, paving, benches, landscaping, crosswalks, curbs and sidewalks in the three communities.

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, sponsored the federal grant. Allegheny County and the local communities also contributed services and funds to the project.

The entire ceremony will last from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and West Railroad Street between Second and Fourth Street will be closed for the entire

two hours, with Route 50 only closed for 10 minutes at 7 p.m.
