Montour school board members have ratified a development agreement with Robinson, clearing the way for the district’s new elementary school.

Planning and design for the $55 million facility began more than a year ago.

The project will not require a bond or initial tax increase, district officials said.

“This agreement was made as a pledge in full faith and credit [with Robinson],” Montour solicitor Donald Palmer said at last Thursday’s meeting.

The new school will be south of Montour High School on the district’s 110-acre campus on Clever Road in Robinson.

The facility will house more than 900 students in grades K-5. Forest Grove and Burkett elementary schools will close with the opening of the new elementary. The district closed its Ingram Elementary School in 2012.

Initial designs, completed by the Ross-based Architectural Innovation LLC, have been presented at school board meetings. Those plans include an elementary media center, common area and open learning gallery.

Montour opened a new athletic center in 2013 and a renovated high school in 2011.
