Montour school board members voted 9-0 tonight to ratify a development agreement with Robinson Township for the district's planned elementary school.

District solicitor Donald Palmer said the agreement with the township was "a pledge in full faith and credit" and will not require a bond. Initial work on the district's planned $55 million elementary school is underway.

The 155,000-square-foot school, designed by the Ross-based Architectural Innovation LLC, is expected to open early in the 2015-16 school year. The building site is just south of the Montour High School and athletic center on the district’s 110-acre Clever Road campus in Robinson.

The district plans to close both Burkett and Forest Grove elementary schools in Robinson with the opening of the new school. All elementary students will be housed in the new building.

Board members also approved the resignation of high school marching band director Kelly Hammond and approved the hire of interim director David Householder, who began working with students earlier this month. Administrators are now interviewing permanent candidates for the position.
