Crashes in both directions caused big traffic backups on Interstate 79 near Neville Island this morning.

A crash involving a tractor-trailer on the Neville Island Bridge closed all southbound lanes around 7:45 a.m. Shortly thereafter, a three-vehicle crash occurred on the northbound side approaching the bridge.

Traffic backed up for several miles in both directions. Northbound traffic was getting around the crash but the southbound lanes remained closed for about 45 minutes before police were able to allow traffic to resume using only a single lane.

There was no immediate word about injuries.
