Police are investigating a shooting tonight in Stowe Township that left a woman wounded.
Officers were called about 9:35 pm to a report of a shooting on Pleasant Ridge Road in the Allegheny County Housing Authority community of the same name.
Stowe Township Officer David English said two houses were hit by gunfire and a woman in her 60s was hit by a bullet in the face. He said she was alert and conscious when she was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Her condition was not immediately available. Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating.
Mike Vogel, chief of the Allegheny County Housing Authority police, said he knew the injured woman and her husband personally and added that both take part in crime-watch meetings and are active in the community.
Chief Vogel said police found eight to 10 spent casings across the street and a few doors down from the victim's house. It appeared another house, not the victim's, was the intended target of the shooting.
"I don't see why they would be. They're really good, genuine people," he said.
