Police are investigating a shooting Friday night in Beaver Falls that killed a 23-year-old man.

Anthony Slappy Jr.  was shot in the stomach just before 10 p.m. in an alley near the house he shared with his grandmother.

He was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. today, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office.

Mr. Slappy’s mother, Darcelle Slappy, confirmed her son’s death.

"It was at his grandmother’s,“ Ms. Slappy said in a brief interview.

Asked who shot her son, she said, ”Just some people that came by.“

She declined further comment.

The incident happened in the 1700 block of Tank Alley between 6th and 7th avenues.

Beaver Falls police Chief Charles R. Jones Jr. said his department was actively investigating the incident.

Police are looking for two people in connection with the shooting, Chief Jones said.

A family member heard an altercation and a single shot. Two people dressed in dark clothing were seen walking away, the chief said.

Although Mr. Slappy died in Allegheny County, the Beaver County coroner’s office is overseeing his autopsy.

A post-mortem is expected to be conducted at 1 p.m.
