More than 700 acres in North Fayette are being considered for a farmland protection program.

Township supervisors tonight acknowledged receipt of an application from landowners to create an Agricultural Security Area.

The board also established an advisory committee including active farmers Jerry Antel, Fred Lutz and John Scott; resident Peter Scully; and supervisor Bob Doddato.

Development director Laura Ludwig said once the area is established, additional properties of at least 10 acres can join.

"It helps to preserve farmland and protect the property owners from potential development," she said.
