The driver of an SUV was speeding and driving erratically this morning before a crash with a dump truck on the McKees Rocks Bridge that injured her and a 5-year-old inside the vehicle, police said.

Several people called reporting the crash shortly before 7 a.m., an Allegheny County emergency dispatch supervisor said.

Stowe Deputy Fire Chief Ken Patton said crews used rescue equipment to pull the child and the female driver from the SUV, which was heading toward Pittsburgh.

Their conditions were not immediately available.

The driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and will be interviewed by police upon release, Stowe acting police Chief Matthew Preininger said.

The bridge reopened to traffic before noon.
