Robinson officials discussed concerns tonight about high spending on legal fees.

Commissioner Ronald Shiwarski said the township has spent more than $122,000 on legal fees this year through April, compared to $36,861 during the same period in 2012.

"We're blowing the budget on those fees," he said.

The township replaced its solicitor in early January and recently hired special counsel to settle two ongoing legal cases.

Commissioner Jesse Forquer said closing those cases saves the township money in the long run.

Commissioners chairman Samuel Abatta said major legal fees so far this year include the following: $34,968 to new solicitor Bruce E. Dice & Associates; $34,885 to special counsel Anthony Giglio of Andrews & Price; $24,999 to interim solicitor John Butya; $15,694 to former solicitor Goldberg Kamin & Garvin; $5,444 to the zoning hearing board attorney; and $4,352 to special labor counsel.
